The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed charges against outrageous entrepreneur John McAfee for promoting fraudulent ICOs.
According to the SEC, between November 2017 and February 2018, McAfee commented on the launch of at least seven ICOs on Twitter, for which he received $ 23.1 million. The SEC statement notes:
“McAfee did not disclose that he was paid to promote the ICO and falsely claimed that he was an investor or technical consultant for several projects. He encouraged investors to buy tokens, while he himself got rid of his stocks. He also dealt with scalping trading strategies – accumulating large volumes of digital assets and promoting them on Twitter without announcing that he plans to sell his stocks. “
Interestingly, at the same time, McAfee had problems with another American department. The US Department of Justice accused the entrepreneur of tax evasion. The agency has requested the arrest of McAfee in Spain and he is now awaiting extradition. In the statement, US Department of Justice said:
“McAfee received millions of dollars for cryptocurrency promotion, consulting, speaking and selling the rights to release a documentary about his life. From 2014 to 2018, McAfee paid no taxes on related income. If convicted, McAfee will receive up to five years in prison for each case of tax evasion and up to a year for each case of tax evasion. He will also face checks and fines. “
Recall that in June this year, John McAfee launched the Ghost decentralized exchange, which in the future should replace the McAfeeDEX platform.
