On Twitter, the exchange said that the wallet on the Blockchain.info service was attacked. All BTCs from it were moved to the address 14RYUUaMW1shoxCav4znEh64xnTtL3a2Ek. The company’s employees also informed Delhi law enforcement authorities about the theft of bitcoins and asked other cryptocurrency exchanges to block transactions from the attacker’s wallet, if any were discovered.
“The problem is not in our bank accounts, all banking services work without interruption. However, we stopped all cryptocurrency transactions. An emergency management meeting is taking place, which will determine our future actions. We apologize for any inconvenience, ”Cashaa said in a statement.
The Indian edition of CoinCrunch writes that exchange experts suspect a virus infection of one of the computers used to make payments to users. An attacker gained access to this computer and, after a Cashaa employee entered the wallet, managed to withdraw bitcoins.
At the beginning of the year, the analytical company Chainalysis reported that in 2019 the number of major hacks of cryptocurrency exchanges doubled, although the total amount of losses is less than in 2018.
